From the two parents who run Champ
Our promise Tā mātou oati
Champ was built at a kitchen table in Wellington by two parents who wanted to stop being the only ones who remembered. We didn't set out to start a company. We set out to make one year with a new teacher a little easier for our son, and then other families asked if they could use it too.
So here is what we promise.
It’s free, and we pay for it
Champ is free for families right now, and we pay for it ourselves. We’re happy to, because we know what it’s for. If a day comes when we can’t carry the cost alone, we’ll tell you well before anything changes, we’ll keep it at the price of a coffee or two a month, and nothing about your child will ever be locked away because of a payment. Your information stays yours, and you can always take it with you.
No ads, ever
There are no ads, and there never will be. Your child’s profile is not a place for anyone to sell anything.
Your child’s information belongs to your family
We don't sell it, share it, or use it to train anything. We look at it only when you ask us for help, and only the two of us can. The privacy page spells out the detail in plain English.
Where the money goes
If money comes in, through donations, through schools and services who want to support the families they work with, or one day through families themselves, it goes into keeping Champ running and making it better. That’s it.
If we ever have to stop
If the day ever comes when we can’t keep Champ going, you’ll hear it from us first, with time to take everything with you, and then it’s gone. Nothing is handed on.
We're two parents, not a big organisation, and we'd rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. We'll keep listening to the families using Champ, and keep it the kind of place we wanted for our own boy.
